Bequests / Trusts

Providing for a distribution of assets through your will allows you to choose where they can provide benefit, not the state. You can make arrangements for your family and still support your favorite charities. Leaving this world without a will allows the state to determine the distribution and your wishes may not be fulfilled. Keeping your will updated over time will reflect any changes to your intentions.

If you wish to leave assets to the Foundation in your will the following sample bequests language can be used:

I give / bequeath to the South Dakota Historical Society Foundation, a nonprofit corporation located at 900 Governors Drive, Pierre, South Dakota, 57501, the sum of $__________ (or a portion of the estate, a particular asset in the estate, or a specific property) to be used by the Foundation wherever the need is greatest (or a specific purpose).

These gifts can end up in many forms including: cash, securities, or property. Providing these gifts through your will or trust will carry out your intentions and leave a lasting legacy.
