The South Dakota State Historical Society is accepting nominations both for the Governor’s Awards for History and the society’s Board of Trustees election.
The Governor’s Awards for History are given to professional or volunteer individuals and organizations, and history teachers at either the elementary or secondary levels who exhibit meritorious endeavors in the field of history in South Dakota. Nomination forms can be found on the State Historical Society’s Website at https://history.sd.gov/aboutus/eventsanded.aspx. They can also be obtained by contacting Jeff Mammenga, Awards Coordinator, at Jeff.Mammenga@state.sd.us or 605-773-6000. Nomination forms are due back to the society by Feb. 21. In the case of history teachers, once teachers are nominated, they need to complete an application form and return that by March 17.
Nomination forms for the Board of Trustees election can be found online at https://history.sd.gov/aboutus/admin.aspx. Three positions on the board are open, a member-at-large, the professional archivist, and the architectural historian. None of the three incumbents are running for another 3-year term, so this is an excellent opportunity for other people to apply. Members of the Board of Trustees must be members of the State Historical Society. These nomination forms are due by Feb. 25.
