Various Take-to-Make project bags available July 10 at Cultural Heritage Center

Did you have a favorite Take-to-Make project from the Family Fun Saturdays held at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre since January? An assortment of the activity bags will be available at the next Family Fun Saturday July 10 from 10-11:30 a.m. CDT (9-10:30 a.m. MDT).

Project bags will include a lion/lamb hanging plate, star quilt ornament, spring flower, plant gnome, and seed mosaic magnet. Visitors will also be able to pick up a freeze-dried ice cream bar to take home and enjoy.

The activity bags include all the materials needed to complete each project, along with written instructions. Video instructions for all the projects are available on the museum’s webpage at https://history.sd.gov/museum/digital%20outreach.aspx.

“The museum had to switch gears due to COVID-19 and change our popular Make-and-Take Family Fun Saturday projects into Take-to-Make activity bags that visitors could pick up and take home to complete,” said Jay Smith, museum director. “As we look forward to returning to in-house Family Fun Saturdays this fall, we wanted to give visitors a chance to pick up another copy of their favorite activity bag. Or, if they missed the opportunity to get a particular project bag they can stop in and get one on July 10.”

Take-to-Make bags can only be picked up on Saturday, July 10, at the Cultural Heritage Center. The museum reserves the right to limit the number of bags any one person or group can take.

The museum is open for visitors. A check-in station at the front door allows visitors to pick up a face mask and gloves if they wish to wear them while enjoying the galleries. Signage encourages visitors to maintain social distancing, and hand sanitizer stations are located throughout the museum.

There is now free admission to the museum for all South Dakota residents. Out-of-state adult visitors pay an $8 admission fee or $6 for out-of-state seniors 60 and older. Museum hours are 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. CDT (8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. MDT) Monday through Saturday, and 1-4:30 p.m. CDT (12-3:30 p.m. MDT) on Sundays and most holidays.
