History and Heritage Book Club -March 8th

Basketball tournaments will soon be taking place for both high school boys and girls in three divisions in South Dakota. It’s an exciting time for players and fans to see if their hoop dreams will be realized. Bob Swanhorst will talk about the time when South Dakota had only one class of high school basketball tournaments when the History and Heritage Book Club meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at the Cultural Heritage Center.

Swanhorst lives in Sioux Falls and was an outstanding basketball player and coach. He has served on the board of directors of the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame for six years and is currently board president. The group has researched all of South Dakota’s tournaments. Swanhorst will tell about the tournaments and some of the players from 1912 to 1935. Come, and share your own memories of high school basketball tournaments.

Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve of Rapid City will be the guest speaker at the April 12 book club meeting, reading from her book “Completing the Circle.” She will be speaking from Rapid City, and we plan to use the Digital Dakota Network to be able to see, hear and talk to her. The program will begin at 7 p.m. Central Time at the Cultural Heritage Center.
