Entertainment for Cultural Heritage Center Holiday Open House announced

A full afternoon of entertainment is planned for the annual holiday open house of the South Dakota State Historical Society on Friday, Nov. 27, at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre.

Following is the schedule of Pierre-Fort Pierre entertainment:
• 12-12:30 p.m. CST: Jeff Speaect, vocals; Gloria Merriam, piano
• 12:30 -1: Becker Family – Mother Denette on piano, and children Taylor, Frank and Vick on African Djembe drums, and Tanna and Kaylee on violins
• 1-1:30: Carol Johnson, vocal
• 1:30-2: Jeanne Schweigert, piano
• 2-2:30: Rodd Bauck, vocals; Karen Lindbloom, piano
• 2:30-3: Jennifer & Patrick Baker, vocal/guitar
• 3-3:30: Joyce Goehring, piano
• 3:30-4: Kate Nelson, vocals; Margaret Ellefson, piano
• 4-4:30: Margaret Ellefson, piano

“The entertainment is always an important part of our holiday open house,” said Jay D. Vogt, director of the State Historical Society. “We encourage people to bring guests, come up to the Cultural Heritage Center and support their favorite performers – or all of them.”

In addition to the entertainment, the event features holiday treats, living-history demonstrations and free admission to the museum, featuring the exhibit “Play Ball! The National Pastime in South Dakota.” People can shop for unique gifts in the Heritage Store and Santa Claus will be on hand.

An added attraction this year is holiday posters made by members of the Boys & Girls Club of the Capital Area.

People are encouraged to bring canned goods as a freewill donation for the Pierre Food Pantry.

Following the holiday open house, the Cultural Heritage Center will be open extended hours for the holidays. From Nov. 28-Dec. 23, the hours will be 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-4:30 p.m. on Sundays. The Cultural Heritage Center is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s days.
