The Museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society, located at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre, will host a special webcast of a program entitled “Family Storytelling with Grayhawk Perkins” from 10-11 a.m. CDT on Saturday, Sept. 21. The program is being broadcast live from the Imaginations Activity Center at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
There is no additional fee for the program but standard admission fees will apply.
Families with children are invited to experience a dynamic storytelling program with New Orleans-born Grayhawk Perkins. Perkins is a well-known cultural figure in Louisiana. He works as an educator, historian and a musician, teaching music, history, writing and environmental studies to students from Pre-K to college level. He has been a solo performer for young audiences for more than 15 years.
“This is a great opportunity to provide live programming aimed at a family audience,” commented Jay Smith, director of the museum. “Grayhawk Perkins is an extraordinary individual and every member of the audience will enjoy his presentation. We are grateful to the National Museum of the American Indian for broadcasting this program live.”
The State Historical Society became a Smithsonian Affiliate in January and is the only one in South Dakota.
